Wrap/Renew

In WRAP/RENEW, teams of caring adults dramatically increase support to build attachment, self-regulation, competency and health.  We oppose the use of typical “Staffings” or “Parent Meetings” where an adult guardian and child are brought before a group of professionals.  Frequently, the educators are arriving at the end of a long school day or are asked to interrupt the typical pattern of their day for these meetings.  Even when these meetings begin with a sharing of strengths, the typical context for this practice leaves the parent and student set apart from the educational professionals.  Instead, WRAP/RENEW centers on the student and the family.  They determine to grouping, pacing and most pertinent goals. The parent and student have opportunity to share their story and group help around goals that are based on family and student priorities. The emphasis is working “with” rather than “working on” or “working for” the family.  Our intent is to train cross sector teams to build consistency in the use of this practice across schools and community agencies.
